General Rental Information

Important documents

The lessee and the driver must present a valid driver's license and an identity card or passport while receiving delivery of the vehicle.

To verify the validity of a driving licenses, the original driving license must be presented. No digital driving licence will be accepted.

Driver's license printed with non Roman Alphabet (Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Cyrillic etc) must be complemented by an international driver's licence or an official translation.
For driver's licenses from countries not part of the international driver's license treaty an official translation is required.

This or any other kind of valid translation of the driving license can only be accepted if accompanied by the original driving license.

Driver's licences from non-EU countries (except Switzerland) are accepted if:
a) no visa has been entered in the passport.
b) the customer has a visa in his passport and at the time of hire has not been in Europe for longer than 6 months. If he has been in Europe for longer than 6 months, he must present a driver's licence from an EU country.

Age restrictions

Minimum age in France is 18 and the driver has to be in possession of a valid driving license for at least 1 year.

Apart from this, the following restrictions for the possession of a valid driving licence are valid:

Tariff information

General

All credit and debit cards as well as digital wallets from internationally recognized credit card companies (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club, Discover, JCB), credit cards by China Union Pay and Airplus are acceptable as payment methods, whereas all prepaid cards as well as Visa Electron, Nickel, Maestro- and VPAY-Cards are not accepted.
PayPal is accepted for prepaid bookings at selected locations. The use of PayPal and the PayPal website is subject to the applicable PayPal terms and conditions. A credit or debit card must be presented on pick-up of the vehicle to make a security deposit. The renter must be the PayPal account holder.
The payment method must have been issued in the name of the driver. This must be presented at the time of vehicle pick-up and be valid at this time. The amount that will be debited includes the rental price as well as all additional extras and charges. Cash Payment is not accepted.

Sixt CarExpress Servicecard (Advantage Circle) is only accepted in combination with a valid means of payment.

As security, the means of payment is debited with a deposit amount. The amount of the deposit depends on the vehicle group of the rented vehicle and according to the following table:

Pay on Arrival Reservation Policies - Non-Prepaid / Stay flexible

Cancellation or modification of the booking is possible free of charge up to the pick-up time shown in the current reservation.
In the event of non-collection of the booked vehicle within one hour of the agreed time without prior cancellation (no-show), a fee of EUR 69 will be charged. However, the no-show fee is never higher than the current reservation amount.

Prepaid tariff - Pay now

When booking at a prepaid rate, the payment will be charged along with the total rental price (incl. booked extras and charges) prior to the rental. The driver and mode of payment shall be finalised at the time of reservation and cannot be changed. A refund shall not be issued for non-collection, vehicle being collected late or returned early.

The booking may be changed up to one hour before the scheduled beginning of the rental period. There will be a booking change fee of EUR 29.99 plus any difference between the original rate and the rate applicable to the adjusted rental period.
A change from a prepaid rate to a non-prepaid rate is not possible.

A booking can be cancelled before the start of the rental. In the event of a cancellation, a cancellation fee will be charged to the rental advance payment already made, depending on the time of the cancellation. Cancellation fees will in no case exceed the total amount paid in advance.
Cancellations prior to the scheduled start of the rental period will incur a cancellation fee of EUR99. Any remaining prepaid amount in excess of EUR99 will be refunded.

Cancellations or changes made within 24 hours of booking can be completed free of charge, provided the scheduled pick-up time is more than 48 hours away.

If the Client does not cancel and does not arrive to take delivery of the vehicle rented at the prepaid rate on the agreed date and no later than sixty (60) minutes after the time stated at the time of reservation, the rental price already paid will accrue to the Rental Company in full, subject to a limit of seven (7) days rental.

Protection conditions

Third party insurance

Insurance coverage for the vehicle rented includes Third Party Liability with unlimited cover for personal injuries, a maximum cover of EUR 100 Mill for material damages and a maximum cover of EUR 1.6 Mill for damages of the environment.

Excluded from the insurance is the use of the vehicle for the transport of dangerous goods. All protection as part of the rental contract will become void, in particular, if an unauthorized driver has used the vehicle or if the driver of the vehicle does not possess the required driver's licence at the time of the event giving rise to claim.

Loss damage waiver (incl. theft protection)

Loss damage waiver (incl. theft protection) removes the drivers responsibility to a part of the vehicle in case of damage or theft.

If loss damage waiver (incl. theft protection) is accepted, the customer is entitled, depending on the vehicle, to a deductible of EUR 1,450.00 to EUR 10,000.00. In addition, a reduction of the deductible is possible.

In the event of willful or grossly negligent damage caused, a claim on the agreed fully comprehensive cover (incl. theft cover) can be reduced or lapsed.

If no fully comprehensive cover (incl. theft cover) has been arranged, the leaser is responsible for all damage to the car not proven to be caused by a third party, and shall be liable for up to the full value of the vehicle.

If LDW is already included in the rates, the renter can choose Loss damage waiver (including Theft Protection) with minimum excess to reduce/eliminate the Non-Waiverable Responsibility.

Tyre and windscreen coverage

The Tyre- and Windscreen Protection gives protection for damages on tyres, windscreen, side windows, backwindow and mirror glass with a deductible of EUR 0.00.

If no glass and tyre cover has been arranged, the leaser shall be liable for up to the full amount of the damage.

Roadside protection

The roadside protection is an extended breakdown protection during the rental and protects you at home and abroad against high service and repair costs for the following incidents caused by you: Key locked inside the vehicle, loss of keys, getting stuck, jump start in the event of an empty battery and breakdown due to lack of fuel or electricity.

All services may only be ordered by a direct claim with Sixt 24-hour Roadside Assistance. They shall also determine the type and extent of service required to ensure the renter stays mobile. If any damage to the rental vehicle occurs which is not covered by Sixt within the scope of the Roadside Protection, the renter is liable for such damage.

Interior Protection

Complementary Protection Plus

Upon conclusion of the Complementary Protection Plus, SIXT waives its right to claim damages to the rental vehicle against the renter up to an amount of EUR 500 for each individual event of damage and to claim damages to the rental vehicle exceeding an amount of EUR 30,000 for each individual event of damage. The provisions of the General Terms and Conditions regarding contractual liability exemption in Section 10.2 apply accordingly to the waiver. Among other conditions, the waiver does not apply if the damage was caused intentionally by the renter or any authorized driver. The provisions of the Complementary Protection Plus are independent and separate from any insurance policies or protection packages that the renter may have taken out through third parties (e.g., travel portals or credit card companies).

Cross border rentals and territorial restrictions

Territorial restrictions

The vehicle selection can restrict travel to certain countries. For a description of these restrictions on admission, the countries are divided into four zones.

Zone I: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain and Vatican

Zone II: Croatia, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia

Zone III: Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania

Zone IV: All countries that are not in zone I, II or III.

Extraordinary car groups (X***) and Sports & Luxury Cars are allowed to enter only in zone I countries.

Premium (P***) and Luxury (L***) car groups as well as all vans and trucks are allowed to enter in countries in zone I and II.

Vehicles of all other groups may enter in zones I, II and III.

Entry into any country in zone IV is not permitted with any Sixt vehicle.

Leaving the European continent is not permitted. This includes the Spanish exclaves of Ceuta & Melilla. The renter undertakes to comply with all official entry, exit and access authorisations.

The local transport of the vehicle by ferry and by motorail is permitted in compliance with the above-mentioned entry restrictions. Damage to the vehicle during the crossing will be covered according to the protection booked in the rental contract.

In case of offence against cross border and territorial restrictions all protections lose their validity. Only the protection from the liability insurance in accordance with the conditions of the international insurance card remains valid.

Charges when traveling abroad

A fee is charged for permission to travel abroad in accordance with the above-mentioned territorial restrictions. This fee is in addition to the one-way fee in case of a one-way rental.

One-way rentals

For One-Way-Rentals within Sixt locations in France a charge of EUR 132.00 applies. No One-Way-fee will be charged for rentals within the same city (except for several stations). We reserve the right to charge a fee for unannounced One-Way-Rentals.

No One-Way Rentals from/to Corsica and Oversea Departments (DOM TOM) allowed.

To meet these provisions, vehicles at stations in the regions where these provisions apply are equipped with snow chains at the charge of: E*** - F*** and Trucks = 9EUR/ day - 60EUR/month, P*** - X*** = 12EUR/day - 80EUR/month. In addition to the snow chains, winter tires are also available as an option, subject to availability and a fee.
Outside the regions/time periods where these provisions apply, winter tyres and/or snow chains are provided for a fee subject to availability.

Vehicle refueling

If the vehicle has not been returned in a completely refuelled state, and if you have not booked the "Erste Tankfüllung/ Batterieladung" (Prepaid fuel/Prepaid charge) or "Fuelling/Charging service" extras, Sixt will charge you the fees in accordance with the tariffs applicable upon rental, for the fuelling of the vehicle and for fuel. The respectively valid tariffs are available at the Sixt branches.

"Erste Tankfüllung/Batterieladung" (Prepaid fuel/Prepaid charge):
You can purchase the "Prepaid fuel/Prepaid charge" extra at the comparable fuel station price and thereby return the vehicle without a full fuel tank. In this case, you will not be charged any additional refuelling costs in accordance with the above paragraph. Please note that unused fuel will not be reimbursed.

Fuelling/Charging service:
Subject to availability at the respective branch, you can book our "Fuelling/Charging service" at the specified price and thereby return the vehicle without a full fuel tank. In this case, you will only be charged for the subsequently fuelled litres of fuel at comparable fuel station prices, in addition to the above-mentioned fee.

Electric vehicle charging

We record the charge level of electric vehicles both at handover and return. If the charge level of the electric vehicle at handover was above 80%, the renter is required to return the vehicle with a charge level of at least 80%. If the charge level of the vehicle at handover was below 80%, the renter is required to return the vehicle with a corresponding charge level.
If the electric vehicle is returned with a lower charge level, a fee per kWh of missing battery capacity shall apply. The applicable rates are available at the Sixt stations.

Prepaid fuel/Prepaid charge:
You can purchase the optional extra "Prepaid fuel/Prepaid charge" at a price equal to that at a comparable charging point and return the vehicle at a lower charge level. In this case, you will not be charged any of the additional charging costs set out in the preceding paragraph. Please note that unused capacity will not be refunded.

Fuelling/Charging service:
Subject to availability at the relevant station, you can book our "Fuelling/Charging service" at the price quoted and return the vehicle at a lower charge level. In this case, in addition to the above charge, you will only be charged the price for the kWh required to fully charge the batteries at a comparable charging point. This is always calculated up to the level of charge at which you received the vehicle.

Loss or Damage to the charging Cable for e-vehicles and hybrid vehicles

In the event of loss or damage of the charging cable for e-vehicles and hybrid vehicles, a fee in the amount of EUR 420,00 will be charged for the replacement procurement of the cable, unless the lessee proves that Sixt incurred no or significantly lower expense and/or damage.

Delivery and collection

Deliveries and collections are available at the local rental station subject to a fee.

This service is available on request for an additional commitment fee outside opening times at selected locations.

The renter is obliged to report the vehicle back to SIXT at the end of the rental period.

Surcharge personal address
For delivery to or collection from an address that is not an official company location of the customer (e.g. private or hotel address), a surcharge of 10.00 EUR will be levied in addition to the collection/delivery fee. If applicable, the fee is not yet due at the time of reservation, but only at the start of the rental.

Terminal Delivery Service

Save time when you arrive at the airport! Take advantage of our Terminal Delivery Service and pick up your rental car even faster. Our Sixt rental agent will deliver your car directly to your preferred terminal. (Charge bookable only 12h before pick-up in Nice Airport).

A premium location fee per month started occurs for rentals at airport and train stations.

Out of opening hours service is available at selected stations. In this case, an additional charge applies for the provision of the service.

Flexibility during your rental

As a flexible mobility partner, we adapt to your plans subject to availability. Please inform us of any changes to your plans during the rental period by calling +33 (0) 144 38 55 55 or directly at one of our numerous branches. As far as possible for us, we will adjust the rental agreement with the help of our staff.

In addition to fees arising from the modification (e.g. extra days / different return location), we charge a handling fee of EUR 5.00 per modification process for changes made to the return date, return time or return location.

Alternatively, you have the option to waive the handling fee for rental changes at your SIXT station when picking up the rental car for a service fee of EUR 3.00.

If you do not inform us of your intended rental changes, the following service fees will be charged:

Flexi Return Guarantee in the tariff Pay later

If the vehicle is returned earlier than the period specified in the rental contract, the rate applied will be that indicated in the contract. A discount of 50% of the unused rental days will be applied (invoicing of early return costs maximum: EUR240 incl. VAT).

Flexi Return Guarantee in the tariff Pay now

When booking at a prepaid rate, a refund shall not be issued for returned early. For further information please refer to the section Prepaid Tariff - Pay now.

Flexi Late Return in both tariffs (Pay later & Pay now)

If you return the vehicle later than agreed in the rental agreement, extra days may be charged due to the rental extension. If you do not inform us about the rental extension, we will charge an additional service fee of max. EUR 28.80 for the Flexi Return service.

Flexi Return Location in both tariffs (Pay later & Pay now)

If you return the vehicle to a station other than that agreed in the rental contract, the Flexi Return location will incur a service fee of EUR 19,99 if we have not been informed of the changes to the rental contract in advance.

Environmental Fee

There will be an Environmental Fee, which is included in the rent.

Administrative Fees

Administrative handling costs for breaches of the Highway Code will be applied: EUR 39.00 per breach.

Administrative handling costs for damages will be applied: EUR 75.00 per damage.

Vehicle cleaning fee

If the customer brings back the vehicle in bad condition in term of cleanliness and the branch has to involve a specialized cleaning company, cleaning fees between 50 euros and 500 euros depending on the price charged to SIXT by the cleaning company provider can be charged to the customer.

Product information Sixt+

General

One month corresponds to a period of 30 days; depending on your selection at the time of booking, a minimum term of 30 days, 6 months or 12 months applies. The minimum term selected will be displayed to you when you book online before you complete your order and will be included in the booking confirmation email. Once the minimum term has expired, the contract is always automatically extended by a further 30 days. You are entitled to terminate the contract at any time by returning your vehicle to a Sixt station. As a private customer, returning the vehicle to a Sixt station is deemed to be an ordinary termination of the existing contract with effect from the end of the 30-day billing period running after the end of the minimum term on the respective return date. A return before the end of the minimum term does not lead to premature termination of the contract, up to which the monthly rental fee continues to apply. For business customers, the contract ends when the vehicle is returned before the end of the minimum term. A fee of 50% of the remaining rental amount will be charged for this. The contract may be terminated by Sixt at the earliest 3 months after the start of the contract.

Age restrictions

Minimum age in France is 18 and the driver has to be in possession of a valid driving license for at least 1 year.

A young driver surcharge is charged for young drivers under 25. Its amount is EUR 99 per month.

Sign-up fee

A one time only sign-up fee is charged per contract. The amount of the sign-up fee is shown during the reservation process.

Vehicle change

Sixt vehicles have a limited holding period and mileage. Therefore, Sixt has a right to exchange the vehicle delivered to you during the contract period when a certain holding period or mileage is reached. If a vehicle exchange is necessary, you will be contacted in time by the station and are obliged to return the vehicle to the specified Sixt station on the agreed date. You will receive an equivalent replacement vehicle for the exchange.

Request for a category change at the initiative of the customer

An exchange of the vehicle for another vehicle model is possible on request, subject to availability. The fee is 49,00 EUR per customer-initiated exchange process and applies regardless of whether it is a vehicle model from the same or a higher / lower vehicle category. Only one change per month is allowed.
If you change to a vehicle model from a different category than the one booked, the following applies to adjust the regular fees:
1. A change to a higher category results in the higher category being charged for the entire started 30-day billing period.
2. A change to a lower category only leads to a price adjustment in the following 30-day billing period. This change can only be done after the renewal of your subscription.

Replacement car guarantee

Free replacement car in the event of accidental damage caused by yourself. For a monthly fee of EUR 15.00, with a SIXT+ subscription contract you can be sure that even in the unlikely event of a self-inflicted accident you will remain mobile with a replacement vehicle. You don't have to wait for your subscription vehicle to be repaired and are immediately mobile.

One-Time Replacement Car Fee

You´ve had a self-inflicted accident and have missed to book the Replacement car guarantee beforehand? In this case you can still remain mobile with your Sixt+ subscription. For a one-time fee of EUR 199.00 (per replacement car request), we immediately provide you with a replacement car. Hence, you can continue your subscription right away without having to wait until the damaged vehicle has been repaired.

Country roaming

You are entitled to drive the vehicle provided in Germany. Use of the rental vehicle abroad in countries in zone 1 (see the section "International travel and entry restrictions" in this general rental information) is possible against payment of an additional fee of 19.99 EUR in the form of a monthly surcharge on the contractually agreed rental price. Use abroad, beyond the countries falling within zone 1, is prohibited. For each violation a contractual penalty of 150.00 EUR will be charged.

Mileage not reported fee

At the end of a month you will be asked to enter the current mileage of the vehicle. This information can be entered directly via the app.

If you should not comply with the entry once, we will charge you a handling fee of 10 EUR. For each additional report of the current mileage not received in time, we will charge you 29.99 EUR.

Vehicle Return

Notwithstanding the possibility to terminate the contract at any time by returning the vehicle at any Sixt station, the customer will announce the return of the vehicle via the Sixt app at least 7 days before the end of the current billing period and a binding return date at a Sixt station will be agreed.

There is an additional service fee of 40 EUR if
- you do not arrange a return date and return the car unannounced to a Sixt station or
- you agree on a date for return, but do not take this date or
- you agree on a return date, but then return the vehicle at a different Sixt station than the one specified in the return date.

Please note that you will not receive a refund for unused rental days.

Cancellation fees (before the vehicle handover):

A booking can be cancelled before the start of the rental. In the event of a cancellation, a cancellation fee will be charged to the rental advance payment already made, depending on the time of the cancellation. Cancellation fees will in no case exceed the total amount paid in advance.
Cancellations prior to the scheduled start of the rental period will incur a cancellation fee of EUR99. Any remaining prepaid amount in excess of EUR99 will be refunded.

Payment failure administrative fees

In case of a late payment of more than 5 days during the renewal process, a payment failure administrative fees will be charged to the customer. The amount of these fees is 49 EUR

VAT

All prices include 20.0% VAT

All rates are inclusive of VAT (if VAT incurs).
For corporate customers with individual agreements alternative prices and regulations can apply.
