Once you've arranged your car hire at Kalamata Airport, driving into the city is a breeze. Simply head east along GR 82 to connect with the E55 which runs right into town. Alternatively, if you're heading straight to the beaches or other nearby destinations, you can avoid the city by taking the new bypass. Kalamata is a compact town and easy to navigate. However, when driving in the surrounding area, you need to keep an eye open for pedestrians crossing the road to get to the beach. Also, the roads around Kalamata can be confusing so you'll really appreciate your Sat Nav. You also need to take care out in the countryside as you'll encounter many sharp turns, especially in the mountains.

You can experience the richness of Greek culture by browsing the city's historic quarter with its ancient church, temple and archaeological museum. A short drive takes you to delightful Aristomenous Street, the heart of modern Kalamata. With its cafes and taverns, this pedestrianised thoroughfare has lovely buildings to admire and is a great place to enjoy a drink, snack or full meal.
